Origin of Christmas in Ecuador

The celebration of Christmas has changed over the intervening centuries since settlement. Early traditions brought from Spain to the New World were pure-blooded, but later acriollaron and each region overlaid with its own local flavor. However, religious devotions, songs, prayers in honor of the Holy Family, continue celebrating the miracle of Bethlehem.

Typical food

Roast turkey: easy to roast turkey with thyme, lemon, garlic and butter recipe.
Hornado pork: Ecuador to hornado leg marinated pork with garlic and cumin dressing, soaked with beer or chicha, and baked for several hours Recipe.
Pork: the roast pork is prepared seasoning the meat with a marinade of sour orange, onion, garlic, achiote, cloves, cinnamon, cumin and brown sugar, then baked at low heat for several hours.
Canelazo and naranjillazo: The canelazo is a hot cocktail of cinnamon schnapps. The naranjillazo canelazo is a version prepared with juice naranjilla.

Typical music

On the occasion of joining our efforts together and celebrate Christmas around the world working and enjoying themselves composing these dates (carols), based on poems or stories songs. All carry a message, the message, all we hear of love, help, care child born in a humble family that gives heat, which gives you love, with the protection of angels and adoration of the people. They consist in faith to be heard to be sung or chanted, read or recited.

Customs and traditions

Midnight Mass: it is a practice which devoted three masses in the temples of Jerusalem to the birth of Jesus Christ.
Carols: Christmas hymns are sung throughout the holiday season.
Ninth: when Families, neighborhoods, churches or groups of friends gather in a house to pray and sing carols.
Cribs: christmas are built with moss and porcelain dolls representing the birth of Jesus.
Advent wreath: during four prior to December 25 Sunday friends and family gather around the crown made with green branches and decorated with candles and red headbands to do some prayers.
Christmas tree: they are trees with bulbs and plastic figures of Catholic divine beings and the tip with a star representing the Star of Bethlehem on December 25 where the gifts are placed.
Good night's dinner: held on 24 December at twelve o'clock when the whole family is together dining.
